Overcoming The Mind

Philippians 4:8 - Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about those things.
Matthew 6:33 - Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all of these things will be added unto you.
Philippians 4:6-7 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, with prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
  • In this world you will face tribulations. But take heart for I have overcome the world.
    • Earthly life is hard but God has given us the cushion of protection that is His perfect peace which transcends our understanding. For His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
  • Ruminating on anything is worship. The worship of fear – which gives the devil a foothold – breeds anxiety, which is the devil’s stronghold. How do we overcome the temptation of fear? Present our requests to God by prayer and petition with thanksgiving. Then, instead of fixating on fearful thoughts, think about that which is excellent or praiseworthy. Practical examples may be sharing your testimony or writing down the many ways that God has already blessed you.
Psalm 42:5 - Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my savior and my God.
  • You have the authority to command your soul to focus on the capability, the righteousness, and the greatness of God instead of that which is plaguing your mind. This is the foolproof way out of depression or lowly thinking. This ability becomes easier and more effective when your spirit grows in strength over your flesh. How to work on this? Spend more time in the presence of God, reading the word, fasting, and abstaining from worldly pleasures.
